• Der Film zeigt die Lichtkurve der doppelbedeckenden Zwergnova OY Carinae. Dieses System besteht aus einem Weißen Zwerg und einem kühlen, roten Hauptreihenstern. Der Hauptreihenstern verliert Masse an den Weißen Zwerg, es bildet sich eine Akkretionsscheibe mit einem Hot Spot, wo der überfließende Gasstrom auf den Rand der Scheibe trifft. Dieses System hat eine sehr große Inklination, wir sehen fast auf die Kante der Scheibe. Während eines Bahnumlaufs werden sowohl der Weiße Zwerg als auch der Hot Spot vom Hauptreihenstern bedeckt, daher spricht man von Doppelbedeckung. Die Beobachtung solcher Systeme erlaubt es, die Geometrie der einzelnen Komponenten recht genau festzulegen. In der Tat reproduziert unser Modell die beobachtete Lichtkurve sehr genau.
  

• The movie shows the light curve of the double eclipsing dwarf nova OY Carinae. This system consists of a white dwarf and a cool, red main sequence star. The main sequence star looses mass to the white dwarf, and an accretion disk develops. Where the overflowing gas stream hits the disk rim a hot spot forms. The inclination of this system is very large, we can see the disk almost edge-on. During one orbital period the white dwarf as well as the hot spot are occulted by the main sequence star. This is why these systems are called ``double eclipsing''. The observation of such systems enables us to fix the geometry of the components to a rather high accuracy. Indeed, our model system reproduces the observed light curve very well.
